"Wait. Really? Pressing on that muscle did that? " Variations of this monologue stream through my mind every time I go to see Dr. Lester: the time a ligament in my knee was sprained and his pressing into somewhere in my calf took away most of my excruciating pain; the time I woke up in the am barely able to lift my head off my bed because of a neck injury and subtle and not so subtle maneuvering from him had me holding my chin up high; the time I was just feeling sad and the music in his office and his spontaneous singing filled me with hope, especially after he declared something about how the body CAN heal itself. With many injuries and lots of pain I had ceased to believe that my body could heal; short of succumbing to multiple operations and and risking further hurt. I'm a skeptic by nature, and tend to control for any placebo effect of medical care by keeping a watchful eye on what's actually happening. So that rather shocked inner monologue I began this review with often turned into questions of him; and he listens, and he answers, and his answers make sense The human body is a grand mystery to me. Dr. Lester has access to a seemingly magical key that unlocks that mystery. There is hope. The body can heal itself -- with a little help from Dr. Lester. .
