My daughter saw Dr. Gulati this morning. She was extremely unprofessional and unpleasant. Her first comment was, "Your face is depressed." This was said without even examining her or speaking to her. She kept repeating this comment. My daughter said that she wasn't depressed, but didn't feel well physically. The doctor had never seen my daughter before so she really had no frame of reference for this remark. If she was indeed depressed, this kind of treatment might have even been dangerous, as depressed people are in a fragile mental state to begin with. They need care and compassion and not judgement. When my daughter attempted to relay her symptoms, she was not even listened to. Even as a layperson, I would have evaluated her for hypothyroidism, because she has classic symptoms, but the doctor was interested in only humiliation. To add insult to injury, she broadcast my daughter's personal business to the support staff in a disparaging way, loud enough to be heard by all in the waiting room. My daughter ending up leaving without being treated, because she could no longer tolerate the incompetence and disrespect. The support staff was very good, it was just this doctor. What an awful woman. My daughter will be reporting this unnecessarily disrespectful professional misconduct to the New York State Department of Health. Dr. Gulati can expect a formally filed complaint against her.
