Trusted this mechanic in the past. Had to get my car fixed. He said one portion of the repair would be at least $1000, and that the rest he wouldn't know for sure until he looked into it further but he would touch base with me with an update. Sounds good. About a week later there's no update, I reach out to him to find that he's done over $2000 worth of repairs and hadn't made any attempt to let me know before going forward. I look at the bill to see he put in a new factory model battery and brand new tires. My cars old enough that I would've been fine with used tires and a cheap battery. Charged for the labor to install the battery, I could've installed a battery myself if I'd known it needed one. None of this was communicated. Ok, so in order to pass inspection I need to drive by car for a bit to see if the check engine light comes back on, then they said I can come by around 5 even though they usually close that at time and get my new inspection sticker since they understand I didn't get out of work until 4:30. I drive over there after calling ahead and they said they'd wait around just to find that no one was there. Now I have a 30 minute drive back home just because they couldn't stick to what they said.
