As a relocated native NYC-er, I was concerned that I would not be able to find good bagels in Carmel. However, at the Holiday at The Lake Annual Parade, some enterprising teenagers in elf suits were handing out red and green Christmas ball-shaped bagels. I took a green one and it was delicious! The kids said they were from Carmel Bagel, and right then I knew I had to find this place.
Occupying an unassuming building on Rte 52, near the Shop Rite Mall, Carmel Bagel is a mecca for great hand-rolled and boiled bagels and other pastries, sandwiches, catering, you name it. They also have a Northern outpost also on Rte 52, closer to Kent Primary School.
They are clearly civic-minded in their hiring of local teenagers, providing free bagels to the parade, local schools, etc.
Carmel Bagel is a local institution that earns its reputation every day! Highly recommended!
