I've been interviewing for months, trying to find a job that would enable me to start working toward engineering licensure. Opportunities are relatively rare, so I did everything I could to get an edge. I spent hours every night after work doing research and submitting applications.
The last thing that occurred to me was that my off-the-rack suit might not fit correctly. Frankly, my slacks were too long and my jacket sleeves went down to my knuckles. The fit just wasn't right, and I probably wasn't making the best impression I could have at several promising interviews.
For under $20, I got a couple basic alterations.
It could just be a coincidence, but the next interview was successful. I start work at a small firm in NYC next week and the interview outfit will now be my first-day outfit. I can't thank the tailor enough - I had no idea what the suit needed when I walked into his shop, but clearly he knows how to set people up. :)
